Effects of roof configuration on natural ventilation for an isolated building

Numerical analyses based on CFD steady RANS were conducted to investigate the effects of roof configuration wind-induced natural ventilation for an isolated roofed building. Gable and saltbox building models tested with 15˚, 25˚, 35˚ 45˚ pitch in present study. The flow field information characteristics obtained from contours plots generated by CFD. In accordance increment pitch, turbulence kinetic energy mean velocity ratio show vigorous response. separated at windward corner do not reattach onto roof, thus induced higher gradient form a large vortex ridge. vortices behind then caused separation ridge extend along mixing layer spread up roof. pressure differences mainly rely shapes. Greater between upstream, interior downstream was observed cases. This is due extended height which boosted impinging effect incoming wind. Generally, exhibit better performance than gable terms measured parameters.
